Anxious thought has been cycling, one worry handing off to the next. You do not need to stop it by force. Beneath all that movement is something that has never moved at all. This guided breathing meditation follows the breath down, past the churn of thought, into the still ground that has been waiting underneath the noise the whole time.
Best for: anyone with a spinning, anxious mind, whose worries cycle and will not stop, or who wants to find a calm, still center beneath racing thoughts.
Use it when: worry keeps looping and you cannot interrupt it, when anxiety has you living on the churned-up surface, when racing thoughts keep you tense and braced, or when you need to drop below the noise to the quiet underneath.
How it helps: by following the breath to the small gap of stillness at the bottom of each exhale, you find a place the anxious mind cannot live, the silent ground beneath the weather of thought. By the end you rest in that still center, knowing it was never threatened by the noise. The breath always knew the way down.
A roughly ten-minute guided breathing meditation in a calm voice over gentle ambient sound, from The Silent Ember Anxiety collection.
