Your body may be holding a great deal right now, a clenched jaw, a held breath, shoulders drawn up toward your ears. It has been bracing all day without your asking. This meditation moves slowly through the body, part by part, letting each gripped place uncurl and release on the exhale until the tension simply drains away.

Best for: anyone carrying stress and physical tension in the body, with a tight jaw, knotted shoulders, or hands that won't unclench. For the chronically wound-up, the anxious, and anyone who holds the day in their muscles without noticing.

Use it when: stress has your shoulders up by your ears; your jaw aches from clenching; anxiety sits as a tightness in your chest or stomach; you finish a long day braced and need to physically relax and let go before you can settle.

How it helps: a guided body scan paired with long, slow exhales walks you from the face and jaw through the shoulders, hands, chest, and legs, releasing each held place in turn. By the end the body is soft, heavy, and unclenched, returned to the ease that was always underneath and ready for you any time the tension returns.

A roughly ten-minute guided breathing meditation in a calm voice over gentle ambient sound, from The Silent Ember Anxiety collection.
