This is for when you are too inside a problem to think, when something has filled your whole field of view and you can no longer see its edges. The way through is not to push harder. This meditation helps you step back, to a slight remove where the whole board comes into view and the heat begins to cool.

Best for: anyone overwhelmed by a problem that has consumed their whole attention, too close to it to think clearly and bracing as though everything is at stake.

Use it when: a worry has crept right up against your face and distorts everything, you can't tell what's truly urgent from what only feels that way, panic is crowding out clear judgment, or you need the composure to see a situation in its real size.

How it helps: you take a few slow breaths and step back, breath by breath, until the problem regains its edges and you can watch both it and your own reaction from a calm vantage. By the end, the false alarms have quieted, the real shape of things is clear, and the way forward shows itself.

A roughly ten-minute guided breathing meditation in a calm voice over gentle ambient sound, from The Silent Ember Discipline collection.
