The day is over now. Whatever it held, it has already closed behind you. There is nothing left to reach for tonight, and nothing more is being asked of you. This meditation lets the day be complete exactly as it was, and guides your body, breath by breath, down into the quiet mercy of rest.

Best for: anyone who lies awake replaying unfinished tasks, unable to switch off at night, weighed down by everything they meant to do and didn't.

Use it when: you can't fall asleep because the day's loose ends keep pulling at you, your mind won't stop reviewing what was left undone, you need to wind down and feel that you did enough, or you want to release the day and sink into deep rest.

How it helps: you realize that whatever remains is beyond your reach until morning, so the trying can finally stop, and you let the unfinished things wait, patiently, without you. By the end, the day folds gently closed, your body grows heavy and warm, and there is nowhere to be and nothing to do but sleep.

A roughly ten-minute guided breathing meditation in a calm voice over gentle ambient sound, from The Silent Ember Sleep collection.
