There is a thought tonight that will not leave you alone. You have tried to push it away, and it pushed back, larger each time. This meditation teaches the opposite of fighting. A thought you stop feeding will quiet on its own, because your attention is its food. Tonight you let it go hungry, neither chasing it nor wrestling it, simply declining to follow, until it loses its energy and dissolves.

Best for: anyone trapped by an intrusive or anxious thought that grows louder the harder they fight it, who wants a calmer mind and a gentler way to let unwanted thoughts pass.

Use it when: a worry keeps circling back no matter how you argue with it, you cannot stop thinking the very thing you want gone, overthinking keeps you awake, or you want to quiet a restless mind without forcing or suppressing it.

How it helps: by the end you have stopped wrestling, learned to notice a thought and let your attention rest elsewhere, and watched the unfed thought grow thin and quiet. You settle as the still water beneath the waves, undisturbed by whatever moves across the surface, and let the mind find its own calm.

A roughly ten-minute reflective meditation in a calm voice over gentle ambient sound, from The Silent Ember Mindset collection.
