You may be lying here turning something over, a problem that will not leave you alone, a decision or worry with no answer yet. This meditation gives you permission to set it down. It gently shows that turning a problem over in the dark only wears a groove in your rest, that action lives in the daytime, and that worrying at midnight is just suffering in advance, with no power to change a thing.

Best for: anyone who can't fall asleep because their mind won't stop problem-solving, replaying worries, or chewing on an unresolved decision in bed.

Use it when: you can't switch your mind off at night, a problem keeps pulling you out of sleep, you're trying to fix something at midnight that can only be handled tomorrow, or the worry loops just as you're trying to wind down.

How it helps: by the end, the urgency thins and the body grows heavy as the unsolved thing is placed on a desk in a room with the door closed until morning. You're released from duty for the night, free to rest and gather the strength that will help you meet it, clear-headed, in the light.

A roughly ten-minute guided breathing meditation in a calm voice over gentle ambient sound, from The Silent Ember Sleep collection.
